AWEAR Diabetic Solutions was founded by four members of Tulane University's Biomedical Engineering Class of 2020. We developed the Sensational Sock as a wearable device to help prevent diabetic foot ulceration.

The Sensational Sock is an everyday wearable device designed to measure the pressure distribution on the bottom of a patient’s foot and alert the user if that pressure exceeds a certain threshold. We incorporated an element of vibrational haptic feedback that will alert the patient immediately of unsafe foot pressures and may help improve balance in patients that have lost foot sensation. Our device is linked to an app which collects foot pressure data and consolidates it in the form of daily, weekly, and monthly reports. These reports can be used by patients along with their physicians to inform any preventative measures – such as lifestyle changes or changes in shoe type/orthotic – that need to be taken to reduce the risk of ulceration.
